Going to look at 1 tomorrow as the guy is after a swap for my 306.
Anybody on here had 1? And what to look out for? This 1 is red so if you have any pictures of smart red 1's then post them up as i will more than likely be looking to do a few things to it.
All i know so far is RUST! plenty of it, although the arches on this look mint in the pictures, and cambelt being due at 10 years or 100k, this is on 89k and 11 years old and he doesnt think its been done yet... so will be due soon!

rust, check front fogs aren't smashed.
everything else will be cheap to replace anyway.
arches may look mint in pics, but 90% sure they will begin to show bubbling somewhere.

Check for blue smoke. The early models (which that will be) suffered bottom end failure. Rings i think.

If it's 11yrs old and the cambelt's due at 100k OR 10 years it'd be the first thing I did

100k or 10 years? Thought most cars were 5 years regardless?

Yeah was thinking this, obviously it should have been done already, but the guy doesnt know if it was done before as he hasnt had it that long.

Assuming that would be on throttle and not idle?

Best car I ever owned. I bought mine from new and loved it!
I wouldn't own one now because rust scares me and I wouldn't be able to afford to fix it.
Phase 2 is a must! Black top engine, black interior dash (rather than grey) and nicer wheels. They also stopped the paint bubbling on the spoiler and around the rear lights too.

Rust is the only thing bothering me aswell, but this 1 looks ok, so will have to wait and see. Theres only 1 little bit on the drivers wing on mine, so if theres loads on this then i wont be going for it.
Are they actually nippy adio?

Going to give this a good going over, hopefully there isnt much rot on it. Needs a good buff and polish though.

As said. Rust
Aswell as bottom arms, axle bushes. But as Ben says, cheap enough parts.

Not a great deal to worry about then other than the obvious rust. sounds good to me then, just not a great lover of the interiors, but guess i could put up with that for a while

Mine was, I had it RR'd and was 122bhp. I had the highest results on the day for a standard car.
Engine is beautiful and the IB5 gearbox is one of my favourites.
Handling was the best bit about it! Could just chuck it everywhere and the steering felt perfectly weighted and balanced.
Imperial blue is the only colour to have, imho

Few things are common go on them.
The one your looking at is a phase1 and as said bottem ends are apparently weaker but I never had any issues with mine and it was driven hard all the time lol.
I had 4-2-1, de-cat, cat back and panel filter and ran 15.9 quater mile at pod which isn't to shabby imo.
Lowered and 40mm springs and handling was epic tbh, so balanced and really predictable.
Bad points:
Rear arches rust
Standard exhausts rot
Heater control vavles go (I had 3 on mine in a year of ownership)
Abs semsors go, effects the traction control too. (I disconnected mine as traction control and abs were over sensitive)

Hmm... yeah i love the imperial blue but i would settle for this red. Give it a good polish, get it nice and shiney, anthracite wheels and lowered a little bit. Oh and put standard grill/mirrors back on aswell

I wouldn't buy a phase 1 personally, my mate went through 3 engines
You have to watch the oil weekly.
Blacktop phase2, just to be safe.

Yeah ive heard about the bottom ends on the phase 1, will be checking that out. Ive never really considered these before untill last week when i got offered a blue 1 but you could see the arches were rotten in the pictures.
Ive been after something bigger for a while But this could do for a few weeks/months as a bit of fun as im really bored of mine now!
Cheers for the help though!

Surely phase 1's cant be that bad to not get 1 at all?
