Posted a lot on here, certain engines being 'reliable' old corsas with 1.2 8v's etc.
Every single car ive had has been reliable, always started straight away, only had a couple of breakdowns ( not one I haven't managed to limp home from) which have been easily fixed.
All cars are reliable unless you buy a crap one IMO.

Most engines will be reliable if you look after them and service them at regular intervals. The likes of a 1.2 8v you can just drive it and not worry about checking your oil and servicing etc and it'll just keep going for ever

i hate it when people say 1.2 8v corsa's are bulletproof also.
a tvr can be reliable if you drive 10 miles a year.

Probably just internet bullshit as I've never owned one or know anyone that has, just the impression I get from the way people talk about them

My 1.2 and 1.4 8v were reliable. Had their fair share of problems but they never broke down. Regular oil changes are the most important thing. Vauxhall handbook says you should keep the revs between 2-3k driving around town as the engine is not labouring but under that it is

I've had two 1.2 8v's and neither have broken down (touch wood). Fair enough they do go on for a long time but they sound like the're gunna blow up when you go into high revs of any gear (guessing it's high revs as they don't usually even have a rev counter) and extraordinarily fucking slow!

The only car I have. Ever had break down or fail to start is my current mk4 golf. All my corsas, novas and dare I say my s2 rst was better than my golf.

I broke down 3 or 4 times in my old 1.0 12v. Ran out of petrol each time.

Things wear out and break. Nothing is reliable its just a waiting game. Thread closed.

Does this mean diesels are no more reliable than petrols?

The only unreliable cars are those with design faults. I'd say the original Zetec-S was unreliable as the engines were revised pretty quickly in their lifespan
My car has never broken down but has thrown a few sensors. Surely that just show that Bosch are unreliable

Still makes the car unreliable though as something broke
