if so.. what size should they be? im not looking for any performance gains, just a better sound. thanks

depends what engine. i drilled my 1.0 airbox. it sounded awesome. but killed the MAS so ive gone back to standard

just remove the airbox and gaffer tape some tights over the AFM pipe

I've recently done my GSi box and sounds good, I've put a guide in the help section, have a look.

Can't see any reason why it would kill the maf

Only way it will kill a maf is if you over oil the air filter.

I'd say get an induction kit with a box or heat shield.

i know there wont be any performance gains, its my first car and i want it to sound a little better thankyou everyone for your help i think im going to drill it then save up for a decent induction kit and heat shield

my 1.2 8v felt a bit quicker

It will sound a bit louder but make sure you drill only below the airfilter, don't drill the lid part. As said drilling wont damage the mas/maf.

whys mine died then? :s i presumed it killed it because too much air was fucking it up?

They don't last forever, most likely just coincidence. They certainly don't die from too much air, personally I don't buy the oiled filters argument.

I just prised the narrow side panel off mine.Don't think it has made any difference tbh.

On my old Corsa 1.0L, I had the airbox drilled with holes about the size of a 10p coin, derestricted, the side by the wing removed and no cold air feed.
Sounded really good and didn't have any problems at all.

ive done it and it sounds much better and i still have the standard filter so may be even better once i get a panel filter

Mine did sound a little better with a Courtney Sport panel filter than a cheap Halfrauds one.
