General opinions on these?, looking at the 5 door as I think it looks better personally

What are the common problems or what to look out for when buying?

Id rather buy from a dealer/ small trader as Im looking to offload my 206 GTi 180 which I think will be a pain to sell private, due to running costs and the group 17 insurance and the current price of fuel.

I have around 4k not including the value of my GTi 180 to spend, but understand that Im going to be paying that bit extra from a dealer to get rid of mine.

my box is mint, almost 115k lol

EGR valves block with then inturn gunks up the swirl flaps....which then needs a new inlet

I always recommend EGR delete then map it out to stop these faults

Ive been told we have found launch control and flat shift map in my ECU, so will he trying them out soon!

The plan was to get it mapped after purchase, around 200 bhp is what people seem to say with the CDTi 150 what kind of torque figures? 300 lb/ft?

3 doors look better.

Egr valves block up and fail to work. Easy fix either map delete, blanking plate with 10mm hole or just regular cleaning with carb cleaner every 8k.
Swirl flaps/rod fail. (which mine has, runs fine just down on power a bit.)
Gearboxes seem to be an issue, but mine is fine 71k and it gets abused.
Look for paint blisters on the rear hatch lower half, as the spot welds split/break.
Boost pressure sensors get clogged up causing surging in boost, easy fix with carb cleaner.

I prefer the shape of the 4 door for some reason, all these jobs seem straight forward enough, used to be a mechanic so well used to carrying out clutch changes, suspension and servicing on my driveway.

Just read a few stories about the gearbox and the input shaft bearing doesnt seem to be an off the shelf part

We have one, well the brother does.

It's on about 70k and gets abused.

I've cleaned the EGR Valve out twice now, had to replace the inlet manifold and it now had a whine in 5th and 6th on the gearbox.

5 Door is nicer than the 3 door IMO.

Gearbox is an issue, that's been well covered.

3dr looks better.
