Im planning on taking the 1.4 engine out my sport tomorrow to make way for the good old xe.How do i go about removing the air con and do i need to remove it permanetly in order to have the xe in? Also am i right in thinking i use the power steering setup that came with the xe or do i use the original 1.4 setup?Ive got the bracket and belt to allow the pas pump to fit already

you can just remove the pipework for the air con and the radiator it just un bolts from the bulk head, theirs not enough space on the XE to mount a power steering pump and an air con pump unfortunately,

and as for the power steering you'l have to run a single V belt system so you can just use the XE pump the corsa pipework WILL fit the XE pump just needs a bit of bending to get the pipes to line up but it does fit.

you dont need to blank anything off for the air con no, well you CAN run a multi v belt system but you will as i found out and many will tell you have problems with clearance issues for the alternator pulley catching on the chassis leg, you can solve this by fitting a 1.2 8v alternator with single v pulley (or XE alternator) and an early XE double v bottom pulley then a XE single v power steering pump.

here's a photo of the cam belt set up and the auxhillary belt set up you should run on a corsa.

and here are the marks on the cam pulleys and cam cover

and if those are lined up above (before you remove the belt) the bottom crank pulley from photos iv found on internet it should line up like this, but to be safe mark it up using a permanent marker or tipex anyway

if your fully removing the air con (which you dont need to) you'll need a full size glove box and shelf for underneath, a pollen filter and the box for it, a upper screenwash bottle if your as fussy as me, small hands, a lot of patience, some plates to blank the holes off...

there's a big awkward box behind the glove box which is a bit of a pain to remove but weighs quite a bit. look at the latest part of my thread and you'll see what i mean

mtech do a kit so you can keep the aircon and retro fit it to the xe but its only a good idea if you shit diamonds and have eps or dont want power streering as it mounts where the v groove pas pump goes

no, dont need the dash out it you mean this bit

..but it does have a fair bit of weight in it

but you will need to change a few things.

screenwash bottle lives up the top if your as fussy as me
pollen filter box needs changed to a non a/c one
plate up the holes...

im on doing it myself

one of the hole plated...

there's the ones in the bulk aswell... (today's job if i get chance)

thats all i know up until now. keep an eye in my thread for further updates

there will be no real weight saving by removing the interior box and the heaters will work find with it still installed even without the aircon plumbed in, id leave it in, you can get a rubber seal that covers the hole at the back of the battery as well

if you compared the standard airbox to the aircon one there not that much of a diffference, that why i left mine where it is

and i like the smaller glovebox and shelf

It's not going to be a track car no,that's the next project lol. il just get that rubber seal thing to block up the holes by the battery. Air box as in air filter box? That's the only thing the car came without!

you wont need to plate anything up if your keeping the big box behind the glove box mate... if that comes out you will need to plate/seal/rubber grommet them up and change the intake box for the pollen filter... (the bit in the middle under the scuttle)

once removing the a/c box though you dont need to replace anything else other than the lightweight plastic pollen filter bit under the scuttle. the airbox can stay the same so your not removing weight then adding weight really

but if you leave the box as is then you just use the existing pollen filter and dont need to weld plates in to fill holes
