I put my Nissa Almera Tino through its MOT last week and it failed on parking brake efficiency; I had a look on the net and looked at adjusting it; but the car is fitted with a self adjustment system. I then popped up to see a local garage i know quite well and he told me it shouldnt have failed as the MOT system states on these cars and a few others that the car's rear needs to have weight into test. Basically the handbrake holds fine but when you are driving and pull up the handbrake it doesnt lock the wheels due to this system which is fitted.
Does anyone have any experience with these system's; I have now taken it elsewhere and they have taken this into account and passed with no advisories. Apparentley this alert is shown to the MOT tester when you put in the reg?!!?
Is this the case; if so i am going to try and get my £50 back from its first MOT?

I'd be claiming for that. Won't they just say why didn't you come back to us before?

Apparently someone else has had the same problem with them on a Kia and they kept failing it on the re-test; the MOT had expired and its a pain in the arse with only one car so initially just wanted it back on the road asap

Me neither, heard of it on the footbrake which is quite common, but a very pointless feature on a handbrake isn't it?!

More to the point, why are you paying £50 for an MOT.

Usually says on the mot test sheet if something needs checking in a different way or can't be tested in the rolling brake tester. Ian, we charge £54.95 an mot

Doubt you can mate, you also need the last 6 digits of the vin and to actually print out the sheet which takes up an mot slot.
