I need to photograph the clock I've designed, and I either need to setup the shot with a really good background, or use a Cubelite to have no shadows and a nice white background.

Does anyone know if it's possible to hire a Cubelite because they're fairly pricey to buy for just a couple of shots! Failing that, how much would someone charge to do a series of shots for me?

Where are you?

In an ideal world you'd sell to someone for a discount on the understanding they provide you with pictures - one way postage!

Should be easy enough to use a light box, more spring out the colour and power of the light that you need to get your head around.....

I'm in Birmingham.

It seems like renting one comes to about £50 for a day when you account for delivery and insurance. Would be good to be able to sell one to someone for the photos, but I don't have any stock to sell at the moment!

I came across this and think I might give making one a go, seen the results of similar stuff on a few websites and it seems to work well

Not sure on the size of the clock but with a big enough box and light you should be ok. Just make sure box its plenty bigger than the clock :-)

It's 220mm by 270mm, or there abouts. Just scrounging around the office looking for a big enough box now

essentially thats probably all you need ed, if you're only doing afew shots then i wouldn't spend a load hiring or whatever. If worse comes to worst you can buy cheap softboxes off ebay for about £15 maybe even less.

One thing to bear in mind is that if you've got shiny surfaces you might get unpleasant reflections that a polarising filter would sort but is another expense you'd probably be able to get round it with some clever light placement

I might actually buy a cheap one from Ebay, looking how inexpensive they are:

I think I've got a polarising filter on an old lens a friend gave me. No idea if it'll fit the lens I'd use for the shots though, as I can't remember what diameter it is. If it doesn't then I'll try and get clever with the light placement like you say.

Decided not to be a fanny - I'll try making one. The money saved will go towards a cheapo tripod which will be far more useful in the long run

Change the colour temperature in photoshop/whatever you're editing in. Might not be perfect result, but better

I'd go with more light power too get the background really white. You have a little shadowing in the foreground and background.
