I'm thinking about paying for myself to do a Prince2 practitioner course. It's not a million miles away from my current role but as I'm not a project manager, I think it's unlikely my company will fund it.
Do you think they might get annoyed if I took a weeks holiday to do it? I know I'm not technically doing anything wrong, but I don't want to piss anyone off.

Yeh but I kind of want them to know that I'm getting the certification.

maybe you should actually ask work first, see if they will pay if not take a week off and do the course!

I'd do it that way.

Yeh I think I will ask first. I've not been here long though, I'll ask anyway

I'm considering doing exactly the same.... I'm not expecting the company to pay for me to do the course, and it would make me feel guilty (for a time anyway) if they did and then I disappeared elsewhere as a result of having done the course...

I'm a business analyst and there is some overlap with project management but they might be like "well you joined as a BA, now you want to be a PM already?"

No successful business should ever put the brakes on an employee wanting to develop themselves.

They might say we will pay you for the week as normal and you pay for the course

That's a good point, that's a decent compromise. Although TBH I'd rather they paid for the course and I took a weeks holiday to do it
