Never seen one but I'm guessing it's some sort of coat/cover thing you put around the turbo?

i got one, does help if you have piping ove it, for example i got intercooler piping immediately above mine and quite close to air filter so anything to stop heat soak is a plus i guess

That is true Barnshaw but I why would you want to retain heat in a turbo?

i guess it is the lesser of two evils really, presumably turbo and housing can take the heat better then it being sucked up through your air filter or inlet, anything to keep under bonnet temps lower is good i guess

It's like when people wrap turbo manifolds, its a pointless method because you don't want maintain heat in something thats already cooking. Surely that'd make everything more prone to detonation?

heatwrapping manifold on aftermarket exhausts on turbo cars is good, increased temp in the manifold means hotter more freeflowing gasses increasing spool, thats why its done
