This means an increase of about £1700 in terms of personal allowance compared to this year, yes? Does that mean even if you're on average salaray of about £25k, you will see that additional money spread across the rest of the years wages?

i.e. the average person will be about £140 a month better off or am I over simplifying?

Seems a waste of time to me, I'd rather have an extra couple of hundred quid than not have it but how much difference does that really make?

Is it not like £300 a year?

I know Whittie, better in my pocket than theirs, it's not as good as they are making it out to be though.

They'll just take it off me again many times over elsewhere.

They are now talking about contribution based pensions

So basically by increasing the tax threshold you pay less tax therefore get less when you retire?

Or am i missing the point?

They wanted up 10k by 2015 iirc but theyre trying to do it sooner to counteract the bad feeling on changes to the higher band.

Going to cost them a few billion which will be taken from other sources.

Stamp duty on homes over 2 million is quite a hit, even when you've got 2 million to spend in the first place.

Why are they trying to hit smokers so hard? The ammount they make on a packet of cigs must ammount to more per year than it costs the NHS in smoking related illness?

I don't think it's changed apart from the top end.

They have stopped the stamp duty relief for first time buyers though.
