my Mk6 transit has shit its ring again. clutch flywheel and starter this time, looking at £350 in bits and some labour after that. thing is ive just put my fist through the rear passender side sill its that rusty, its an X reg and done christ know how many miles. so Im a bit loath to spend so much on fixing it

I want a new van but I dont want another Mk6 transit (2000-2006 shape) A. because of the trouble Ive had with this one and B. because the fuel pumps are weak and very expensive.

Im willing to Part Ex my Punto for a decent van so budget is around £3 - 4 grand. Im looking at citreon relays / peugeot boxers. both use the 2.0 HDi engine which I believe is a good one, they are galvanized and dont have the rust problems that transits have, Im just not sure what the rest of them is like. sprinters rust too easy and VW transporters are too expensive.

any other Ideas? what are Vivaros like?

Peugeots and the citroens are flimsy as fuck (From the ones ive seen and driven) engines are good though.

Id go for the vivario, looks better, pretty nippy and quite spacius, Plus they have a decent radio!

doesnt have to be nippy, doesnt have to look good and doesnt need a good radio. Vivaro is shorter and narrower than a transit and they seem to be much more expensive. uses the same turbo that is on my car too and they are very weak. vivaro can gtf I think.

if there is one thing peugeot and citroen can do its make a diesel engine. all it needs to do is start in a morning and get me where Im going

my sister and my mate both have peugeot expert vans my mates has 100k and my sister has 160k both never put a foot wrong.

only thing wrong with my sisters was peugeot servicing

have a look at scarisbrick car and van sales in scarisbrick he has a good range for sale.

Relays, boxers and the ducato's all suffer from gearbox problems, Mainly the linkages.

The Relays are horrible to drive compared to the Transit.

Vivaro all the way, Been running one for about 6 months now. Trouble free and nice to drive even though its done 110k

Going to get another soon, probs a bit never though

I still think overall the Transit is best in its class. We put two well past 100k with no major mechanical faults and they weren't serviced well at all, just a shame Ford rustproofing is almost as bad as Mercedes. Did the same to a Relay and mechanically was pretty sound, had some early warranty work and fuel pump failed later on but other than that pretty sound. Rest of it was crap though and horrible to drive. Not had much experience with Vivaro/Traffics, general opinion seems to point to week gearboxes and turbo problems. Don't seem to suffer with rust though and bodywork seems to hold up well.

If I was buying with my own money it would be a Transit, someone else's and I'd want a Transporter.

I've used one of them for about 4 years doing sheet metal enginnering and it was faultless, got it from new with the firm at the time.

Decent rear ladder and roof rack and it never had any problems carrying what must have been 200kg of tools and work related stuff along on jobs + 3 people.

i drive a vivaro at graft and i love it, drives dead car like and will do 100mph no bother in 6 speed.

although i envy lads with the new trannys

Gonna get my van working and use it for a few days while i find another. then it will go on ebay for spares and repair. i have a works 08 transit on 65k too. it cuts out when started from cold and its had 2 wheel bearings. also has a pin hole in the sill. i cant be doing with the rust problems. really baffles me why ford do it. it is nice to drive though.

Good to drive. Very car like and very quiet for a van. Dreadfully slow though to the point you find yourself with foot to floor everywhere (my experience from driving sky vans).

deffo not the vivaro,master,primastar, the french engines terrible and the later nissan engine can cost up to £1k to do a rocker cover gasket lol there really nice vans to drive but really unreliable

a second hand peugoet boxer,relay or transit, i had a nice t350 transit last week, 6 speed rwd and it was really good but, also had to deliver a boxer from angus to glasgow and the boxer didnt even use 1 bar of diesel
