the flying car
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17592648
quote: A Dutch company is launching a vehicle which can be driven on land, or flown in the air.
The Personal Air and Land Vehicle (PAL-V) can be configured as a gyrocopter, requiring a 165m (540 ft) runway to take-off, or as a three wheeled car.

My prediction is that things like this will never take off (no pun intended).
Cars should stay cars, and flying things should stay as flying things.

Why do people keep trying to design these stupid things?

Exactly. If it need's a runway to take off, i'd much rather just drive to the airport where I have my plane waiting...

Tbh that is fucking cool. I love the rear blades the way they fold up.
Dread to think how much it is though.

Until they make a VTOL car that uses free energy and is affordable, it won't catch on.

Isn't this like the 20th flying car that's been made now?
Obviously not going to catch on until you can do a hover conversion from back to the future
Lol I can see it now Corsa B with LET and hover conversion retro fit haha

Apple would improve existing options. Not design something that didn't exist.

the more i think about it, the more i can se it isnt a flying car, but a aircraft that can be used on the road
we you consider the cost of hanger space, this can be £100-600 a month, depending on 1) type/size of aircraft 2) facilities available/size of airfield
if you were a pilot not wanting to be priced out of your hobby this would be ideal, would fit in a garage, and can be driven to an airfield as required.
a brilliant idea, but only when approached from the aero side rather than the auto side

I'd like to see Paul_J's opinion, if possible in comparison to the Moller version.

You can buy a pretty damn good light aircraft for about £60k all in and leave it parked up in a farmers field for less than £1k a year though. You've got to do the sums though, usually you need to do over 100hrs a year to make solely owning your own aircraft make financially sensible - you'd normally own a fraction of it.

i can't argue with you, but there will be situations where a pilot will want to keep their craft in a harded harger, worry free, rather than sharing it with the chickens, for a peice of mind this vehicle offers that.
in addtional it offers freedom of airfield, as a pilot you are not tied down to taking off from the same airfield, if the weather, or flight plan determines it is easier to TO elsewhere then this offers that benefit.
it doesnt solve issues, but opens doors to those that may be looking for that door
