This morning i went along with a friend to elvington airfield near York as he had got a trackday experience for his birthday... on arrival i was probably more excited than he was to see a long line of supercars ready for people to drive, so immediatly i asked if i could pay on the day for a go in one of them...

I picked the Supercharged Ariel Atom at £25 per lap so i did 3... 130mph accelaration like i have never experienced and probably won't in another car.. such great fun at not a bank breaking price..

anyways i thought the track was a bit bland really and would like any opinions on other trackdays/ experiences and if its worth taking my own car.. prices and tracks.. and your experiences also

You didn't get to drive it surely?

When I went it was passenger only (for the SC atom) I drove an R8, much more fun doing a proper all day track day in your own car tbh.

If your car is suitable, use your own car. For example I am doing Donington Park in May, £145 for the full day, will use a tank of fuel so around £200, but I will do over 100miles on track (probably around 150)

The idea of experience days has never really excited me tbh but track days in my car, I love 'em. Can't wait till the 28th when we're back at Combe for the spring action day

My dad bought me a Lambo driving experience for Christmas, I need to get that booked, should be damn fun

When I get my project car on the road I'll have to track that at some point too

Full tank?! I battered the fuck out of my 182 round Cadwell all day 9-4 and only just used half a tank.

Same with 106 round Croft.

Cadwell was around £140 I think, open pit lane. Croft was £250 (expensive cause it was 105db which is rare at croft, and was a saturday)

Never driven anything that fancy so I can't compare but that surprises me. I love being alone in the car and knowing whatever I do is just down to me, not sure you can do that with the guy next to you, however nice the car.

I read it as much more fun than doing a proper track day.

OK we agree - drive your own car harder.

Exactly, I paid £100 I think for 3 laps in the R8. Lasted about 15 mins max. And with instructor there you can't drive it as hard as you'd like, and it was auto so also not as fun. I understand it's a £100k+ car and £100 to have a go in it is cheap, but I'd rather spend £150 and have fun in my own car on track, plus it teaches you a lot about your car and is very fun

I very much doubt you got to drive the Atom. Passenger ride yes. I've done two experince days first was a Lambo Gallardo and the other one was a 4x4 taster both awesome days. Both at Pretswold-Leicster.

I had a supercar day booked and i wanted to drive the atom and ascari but they wouldnt let me.

I actually told them that majority of the other cars were slower than my own or just didnt float my boat and if i couldnt drive at least the atom ill cancel...

I cancelled.

Seems perfectly believable to me. £25 a lap also seems to add up fine when you think about it.

i did one at teeside area for my 21st, my dad had already picked the cars out for me, Scooby STI and Ferrari 360... i also got a passenger lap in a M3.
loved every minute of it apart from the F360... they have dual brakes and the co driver/instructor/tutor/dickhead had his foot on them all the way round and kept telling me to slow down and take it easy "slow down!!, were on a track man!!" i said
scobby however was a lot of fun...

they also have an atom there and you can drive it

you dont experience a track day until you take your own car on track, i remember my first in my 150bhp toyota starlet glanza at silverstone, i remember driving on it was open pitlane cruising down the pit was shitting myself shaking with nerves as i was about to enter the track a supra flew past and i instantly lost all my fear did my first lap to get car warm then put my foot down.

had a battle with the redline racing teams meganne which was quick as hell for a diesel every straight he had the legs but every turn i was outbreaking and out handling him eventually overtook him and lead the way for 3 laps before i eventually overtook a 200sx going into brooklyn and spun it as the corner tightens.

from there did castle combe // llandow // silverstone again.

biggest regret recently is breaking my 300bhp starlet gt turbo to get some cash and never taking that on track.

can do track days cheap, cheapish car with some alright power coilovers brakes and semi/cut slicks and you have a blast.
