having recently joined a gym to sort out a back problem and work on my core, thought i'd have a quick look today, before my induction tomorrow, what my resting heart rate is.
When i was about 17 it sat around about 44 - 48 but i dont do any exercise anymore cos of this back issue. Well, using an app on my andriod phone a minute ago it came out at 56! That's not right, so found my pulse and counted it over 10secs, multiplied by six and came out with 54!
Ok, so maybe it was close then. How the hell is this, i dont do any exercise really anymore?!
On another note, the other guy in today on the app came back at 89 and I counted it out myself at 88. App seems pretty accurate!

normal range for resting heart rate is anywhere between 51-100 bpm
As for when you were 17 - youve probably grown since then so your heart needs to work a touch harder to pump the blood round your entire body...

Just timed mine. At rest it's 70 bpm. I haven't done any meaningful exercise for 7 months though due to rupturing ligaments in my ankle.

but back then i was playing at least 4 cricket matches a week as well as training, hockey, out on my bike / skates every spare night etc. and generally very fit.
nowadays i get fatigued very very quickly but have always been better at short bursts of energy i.e. a sprint to chase down a ball rather than constantly going up and down a football pitch for 90minutes.
I was expecting to get a reading of something more like 66 - 70 tbh

There's a cool app called instant heart rate. Uses your iphone's light / camera to measure it.
- mine read 58 bpm, but I drank a lot of redbull last night and had a couple of coffees today.
I want to try it out next time I do a work our or am truly rested.
[EDIT : I do quite a lot of exercise at the moment though. I do 8km run's twice a week, cycle at least 10km through a forest every weekend and lift weights two to three times a week.]
