what can we expect now, pretty looking bikes that are refined and boring to ride

Yamaha as far as I'm aware are the only firm actively developing a common market diesel bike engine.
I'm surprised that the deal was sanctioned by the Italian government as they seem particularly keen on holding on to heritage brands but I suppose they let Lamborghini go to VW before so meh, can't see VW having much injection bar cash to a bike company

No surprise the Italian government didn't get involved, iirc it was American owned in the late 90's.
Seems an odd one but by all accounts VW has a big cash reserve and are masters at reviving/reinventing brands so Ducati are in pretty safe hands.

Yeah, although their patriotism didn't stop them sponsoring Yamaha MotoGP, albeit with Rossi on board.
I'd guess they don't have anything like the cash reserves of VW too, are Fiat not still partially state owned?

If they make something like this, I hope they improve the performance - these have a top speed of about 65-70mph, for a 750cc bike that is still sold in 2012, you have to agree is poor.

Doesn't Porsche own the Majority of VW and the rest of the VAG group (including Lamborghini), so Ducatti is basically owned by Porsche now.

What I don't understand is that most press si saying that Audi have bought Ducati, not VAG - surely that's one and the same?

Sort of, I'm not sure how it works but it's Audi AG, similar to our PLC, so they must be on the German stock market in their own right.
Audi are always credited with owning Lamborghini, never VW so it must be on similar lines to that.
Also Porsche never tried to take over VW, I can't remember the exact details but it was some sort of scheme between the two companies to protect them from outside investors.

I don't understand it fully but there was something on TV about it a couple of years ago, Porsche definitely attempted a hostile takeover.

Yep. They did something with the share price and then went all guns blazing. I watched the same program.

Anyone who thinks this means dull bikes needs to look at the Lamborghini Reventon
I think this a great move, Audi saved Lamborghini from a certain death, they'll do the same with Ducati.
