Im looking for a car that is better on the juice, need 50mpg+ and the clio is only getting high 30's.

A mate of my brothers is looking for something more sporty, nippy, a little hot hatch.

Decided we could swap. His is a E46 320d M Sport - 140k miles, new turbo fitted, swirl flaps removed etc etc.

Mine is a 182 with both cup packs, 72k miles, just had cambelt and auxbelt done.

What you think? Straight swap? Money either way?

Hmmm you stand to gain a lot more refinement & comfort and I guess reliability although the last one is subjective depending on whether the BMW is a good one.

Unless it has had various bushes, possibly control arms and replacement shocks the suspension will be very tired on the BMW. You will particularly notice this going from the 182 also.

Just so you are aware, the engines can take mileage on E46's but the suspension can get very tired.

Wouldn't say so. Just had inspection 1 done on mine, both front arms (its only the balljoint needs doing) and a rear shock for under 400.

Having driven my mums 320d now and then when younger and then my own 320d for ~100k miles, not a chance of 50mpg round the houses.

i get 42mpg out my 330d round the town and the short work and back trip. best car I've owned for ages, and they really do handle well. probably a lot better than a newer french car.

I only do 50 miles a day on the motorway so mpg should be fine.

Ill check about the shocks etc!

Thats it, the 320's are worth peanuts at the moment. Starting at about £2k!

I'd personally try sell your clio then if it's what u wanted buy a 3 series as your clio is worth more. I have a 172 clio and a 330d, the clio handles well but the bm still has some serious amounts of grip and handles perfectly imo
And I much prefer the bm

03 will be a face-lift right?? Even with 140k, i can't see it being worth less than a Clio, esp with it being the M-sport.
