I logged into my Hotmail (have had it for over 12 years) account this morning, first time in about a year, and thought about closing it as it never gets used (moved to Google/own server for email, Facebook/Twitter/Mobile for communication).

So it got me thinking; does anyone still use their Hotmail/MS Live accounts (either for email/messenger)?

Still use Hotmail for signing up to websites and things. Use Google Talk now instead of MSN as there aren't any adverts on it and don't need to install anything on my computer to use it.

I use a passport account for MSN for the odd occation (with my google account), don't use hotmail anymore. Wish more people used Google Talk

I only ever use my hotmail address for signing up to forums etc so that my ISP address doesn't get full of junk.

I use Hotmail for my e-mails. Few friends on MSN Messenger (Windows Live messenger). Got a Gmail account which is rarely used (only for android related stuff tbh).

Pow/Ed - Likewise, Google Talk or Skype. Can't actually remember the last time i use MSN Messenger although it was probably first year at uni ie: before Facebook/Twitter and integrated chat.

Use it to sign up to stuff. Had over 30,000 emails last time I logged into it, like you had it over 12 years.

Use Gmail mainly for email / personal. Outlook for business.

If I ever sign into messenger it's still hotmail.
Some of my microsoft stuff is also linked to it.
Don't use it for anything else.

Hotmail is shit. It's spam filtering is a joke, it shows you adverts for Windows Internet Explorer 9 when you are using a Mac, and when you are using a Mac you can't use Command - C to copy some text because it seems to activate a menu somewhere on the page.

I only ever use it for website signups, use my business email to communicate with customers (obviously) and also friends & family.

I'm surprised people are using it for their primary addresses. Since Gmail launched, Hotmail/Live has always had the stigma that it looked 'unprofessional' (no idea why) in comparison. Hence why I jumped on the bandwagon

Although i agree, the spam filter in Hotmail is piss poor compared to Gmail's.

Use hotmail for signing up to shite.

Gmail for serious things as i got a good address and giving over fro_dizzle@... on a CV etc isn't a good look

I use it to sign up to websites I know i'll get spammed for. Never check my inbox though

I use Gmail, my business email is run through Gmail as well so now I don't even use Mail etc (I'm on a mac).

Has been the best thing i've done for ages in a business sense.

I use Mail (I used to use Outlook 2011 until it fucked up my sent items the other day), but my email is hosted on an Exchange server 'in the cloud' so I can access it from my iPhone or a web browser too.

I did use Gmail for my business for a while but didn't really like it any more.

Don't actively use hotmail though have a lot of emails forwarded to my gmail from it. Also use it for skydive cloud storage.

Yup Hotmail is my main account and I used MSN everyday... there's only a few people I regularly speak to though. I don't have Facebook, perhaps I would use that more if I did.
