My mates got the new shape 330d and it's bloody quick, his brothers Evo 6 struggles to pass it on the move in a straight line so I'd imagine the 335 with a remap to be seriously rapid.

They are fast in a straight line, but they are a Diesel so you don't get the excitement of a revving petrol engine and they won't handle anywhere NEAR as good. M3's aren't fast by any means, it's how they handle.

Surely the same suspension components and geo set up could be fitted to one?

I've never driven either but I've got a couple of points here I would like someone to explain.

Everyone always says how the M3 drives completely differnetly, yet they aren't normally much, if any slower round a track, they are as quick in a straight line, possibly quicker on the move.

So when exactly does being a totally different car come into it?

My mates remapped 335d beat an e92 m3 at Santa pod. They are bloody quick when remapped. But I'd rather the m3 rasp.
I just put all the original panels from an m3 on it for him. Bit of a nightmare with rebuilding the rear arches but all good now.

It looks like the 335d will do 13sec 1/4 miles in standard form all day long. That's bloody impressive for a diesel. I'd have one over the M3. It sounds better as well IMO.

It's competely different car IMO. Hours and hours of ///M power put into making it handle better, handle the power better. Just the 335's can be made faster easier and cheaper because they're turbo, if you want straight line speed that's fine, I'd have one, no doubt about it

It's just the whole characteristics of it all, the V8 sound, better throttle response, the grunt out of corners, no matter how fast it is it's no M car.

But they go round a track just as quick.

Fair enough it's not got a petrol V8 but if it's as quick round a track surely it doesn't handle much worse?

Behave

I just don't like the sound of any M3. There raspy as hell which is a horrid sound. The only thing about the M3 I like is the looks.

I would be surprised if it's as fast around a track, I suppose the straight line speed makes up for it. They won't blitz an M3 anyway, they are quicker but not rocket quick

I'm sorry but if you think a Diesel sounds good for a start, never mind better than a screaming V8 then you need your head checked

11k gets you a high miler, they (obviously) command a premium over the masses of 318d's.

It's not just a simple small engined diesel tho is it. The Audi has a V8 which sounds a million times better with a deep growl than one rasping like hell.

Arent we comparing two different models

I.e Grahams version is the straight 6 were as the 335d is the e92 so the M3 will be the v8 version which is considerably quicker

However the 335d is an awesome car

No I know but come on, Diesels can't sound good, sure they sound better than they used too, but you cannot beat any screaming petrol engine, especially a roaring V8

Then no way will the 335d be as quick around a track? Even mapped is over 100bhp difference before you take into geometry and suspension etc
