Going to look at an 08 plate Astra VXR later, it's black, done 31k miles, full service history, nothing's mentioned about tax or MOT but it's from a dealer so I'd imagine that could be sorted. It's got the 19" diamond cut wheels and looks in good condition.

It's up at £9750, but I'm guessing I'd be able to knock that down a bit. Is it worth that sort of money?

If its mint then yep.

Is it standard?

To give you an idea....I got £10.5k part ex for mine 1.5 years ago, same age/mileage/wheels. Would have probs been sold for £12k??

Probably about right in decent condition, keep an eye out for the usual things with a turbo'd car such as blue smoke etc, check for any whining from the gearbox and jumping out of gear, there's loads of them about so if it's not right then walk away

Any movement from the gear stick in any gears you should just walk away, also when you test drive it try and get it on a mway or dual carriage way to see if it whines in 6th.

Rang them to ask about a test drive, they were being fussy with me wanting to test drive it when there's a couple of others I want to look at yet as well. Basically won't let me unless I said I'm definitely going to do a deal with them today. Why do they think someone's definitely going to buy the car before they've even driven one?

Tell them to gtf then. I would never buy a car without test driving it first.

Every time I've been to look at a car they've been the same. It seems impossible to buy a car

If you're testing it to see if the box is going then you're going to buy it otherwise right?

In which case do the deal then test the box, then refuse if you don't want it.

I'm not testing it just to see if the box is going though. I've never driven an Astra VXR before, so if I don't like how it drives, I'm not going to want to buy it? Surely no one buys a car purely on looks and doesn't care what it's like to drive when they have to use it everyday

Tell them you're definitely gonna buy it assuming all goes well in the test drive. They can't MAKE you pay

Never had that issue, usually just go in and talk to someone about the car, comment on the condition and looks of the car, ask about mileage and history etc and show your interested then bring up a test drive, usually if you just ask for a drive right away they think you just want to have a shot of the car. Make it look like your interested and they would be silly not to do a test drive
