Sold my road bike yesterday on Ebay for £510 (they got a bargain!!)
Spoke to buyer today. Geezer from Liverpool, but he's in Spain on holiday atm.
His mate is going to meet me tomorrow to do the deal....cash.
BUT...
He's suggested that in order to save money, I request to Ebay to cancel the sale/transaction, which they will do supposedly, and I won't get charged fees, then we split the saving between us???
Is he/this dodgy??? Will Ebay do this no questions?
He has over 300 positive transactions on his history. Sounds a genuine guy. He's said its up to me, and he's happy for it to go through Ebay as per normal tho if I don't want to do it.

Iv cancelled the auction a few times after the item has sold no problems and not had to pay. Dont share nothing with him tho, he pays the price he won it for and you get out of paying ebay fees

can you not wait till his mate does the deal then cancel the transaction or is there a certain timeframe

Should be able to wait a bit, iv done it upto a week after auction ending

From what he says Ebay will ask him for confirmation that he agrees that the transction is cancelled.

Yep. I won't cancel until deal is done and cash is in my hand. Don't want to cancel it then he decides he doesn't want it.

Im in spain, mate will collect it, cancel the ebay transaction and just do a cash deal.
Not being funny but doesnt sound right.

But, you'll have taken £25 less (or whatever half the fee's is) for the bike if you're sharing the savings, then you need to trust that he'll still cancel the transaction at his end after he has the bike for less cash..

Ye they will ask Him for confirmation, but as said dont cancel anything untill you have money and hes signd for it.

The deal is 450 cash, as you will be giving 50 to ebay, so if he offers 451 your are better off.
I have done it a few times, save ebay getting 10% for nothin, just make sure the 20s are dry.
Either way if the cash is not right you will have troubles getting it back via ebay as they only cover paypal buyers that are authorised for cover.
451 Cash on collection and you are square.

Because his all adds up...previous bike stuff bought etc etc 300+ positive transactions

Just spoke to him again.
His mate is going to pay me full amount cash. Then after deal, once i've cancelled transaction and it definate i'm not getting charged fees, I am going to post him a cheque for his share of fee savings.
He offered to do it that way.
And his mate is meeting me at one of my appointments - a hotel, car park full of CCTV, so if I get lynched......
Should I be getting his mate to sign something to say he's recieved the bike in good nick etc?? Surely something like that isn't worth the paper its written on??

If hes offering to get a cheque he is deffo not a scammer, they dont have bank accounts.

The only issue you will have is ebay, when the transaction cancel dept look at your email log, confirming that you would meet and skip paying ebay.
Or did you use other method to discuss skipping fees payment?

If its a cash pick there is no point in paying a 10% finder fee.
