Looking at 1 series Coupe BMW 123D's. There's a few for £11,500 to £12,000 with 90k miles on 57-58 plate, but they're a high spec, sat nav, leather, heated seats, M sport, USB/Audio, Bluetooth, Stop/Start Function, Extended Interior Light Package etc etc you get the idea
Or you can get ones on for 14-15k with 40-50k miles, but they have barely any options and they are SE's instead of M Sports.
To get a similar spec to the higher mileage one you need to spend 17k upwards
So my question is, mileage doesn't bother me at all so I'd go for the high spec high mileage one, what would you go for?

Id go for the high if it has been maintained to a good standard, mileage doesn't scare me.
A3 is on 131k FSH by the looks and has no problems that weren't a result of its accident.

My mate has a 130i msport bits on it with about 30k on it, he liked it a lot but it was costing him too much for a daily hack to he went for a similar spec 123D with 70k on it.
He really does not like it, says the steering and handling feels really tired by comparison. He may of just bought a poor example and I know you say your not fussed about mileage but Id say its definitely worth driving both before deciding.
Personally Id go lower mileage pov spec and add the bits I wanted later down the line.

Haven't test driven yet Adam but was just to get an idea cause when I showed my mate the car he was like fuck that anything over 50k is high mileage 
I've never really fancied a 'performance' Diesel but economy & a bit of poke seems a decent idea. It'll be used by my missus for work aswell which is why I was looking at the diesels.
I imagine going from a 130 to 123D is a bit of a downgrade though

having done over 70k in my previous 1 series I would say go for it providing its got history
the 123D will remap to 265 BHP and keeps the 130i honest all day long
Guy on babybmw.net had both a 130i and 123D (mapped) and he said there was nothing it
However the steering feels completely different on the petrols - better feel and more mechanical compared to the dervs
Know this as the 118D we have feels completely different to the father in laws 118i convertible in terms of steering
Problem you may have is that 08/58 plates have some issues with turbos but again that can be hit and miss

Higher mileage and higher spec for me. Cars nowadays are made to withstand higher mileages. As long as there is a full service history there shouldnt be a problem

Looking at the 130's but the fuel consumption is almost half. It's easier to find one with a decent spec though!
If it was just up to me I'd get the 3 series E92 but she doesn't like the size of it

That's less than 2 years driving for me. If I bought a brand new van, it'd be on over 90k before it needed its first MOT

That's my thoughts too, and another reason mileage is tosh my M3 is on 54k and went pop just interested to see what people thought about it. I would prefer Xenons aswell but not many people seem to have them

And with regards to modern cars being built to last longer, I think the opposite tbh. We now live in a throw away world and manufacturers build there cars to last the length of your finance deal and don't expect you to keep a car for longer then 5 years, plus with this economy they are built to cut costs. Certain components iv seen go on New cars which wete unheard of pretty much on older cars. Granted the German marques aren't quite as bad though

Eh? Anything else that wears is cheap, even engines aren't expensive if you want to look at it like 6k+ saving means plenty to reserve incase the engine needs replaced.

I was looking at buying a 123D but for the money I had they were all 70k+ miles.
Ended up going with a 118D M-Sport with every extra you could imagine and 25K miles.
Don't regret it one bit.
