Must be fairly nice, return good MPG and will last a while.
I'm out of ideas?

What would you buy? Needs to do a fair amount of miles etc.

Help please

I would go for a Megane

I was surprised with mine.

1.9 dCi dynamique

2004 model, 120bhp, 300nm, electric windows, central locking, alarm and immobiliser, deadlocks, auto sensors for the lights, auto window wipers, 6 speed gear box, digital fault reader/tyre pressure/trip/ave mpg/next service, electric mirrors, drivers and passengers air bags, 5 star safety rating, loads of in car storage, Start button ! Is loads of stuff, really well equipped.

They wanted £2300 but I got it for £1900.

A lot of car for the money.

I don't find it too bad, but I've always had guzzlers. Will eat up miles as requested anyway.

Ask Ian and James on here, both had theirs over 18 months iirc. So not a lot could have gone wrong.

Not economical like you asked though.

Should be able to get a E46 318 sport for £2k. Obviously if mpg wasnt a concern i would never recommend a 318 though

I have noticed that 3 Series Compacts are going dirt cheap, ok i know there not as nice as coupes but they are still nice drives and a good budget car.

nice set of wheels and a cheap economical car.

I've thought about this as I need something cheap and cheerful for about 6 months and Megane was my choice as well.

The Astra will only be a 1.8 - so can't be too bad on fuel?

Must be better than my remapped LCR

Probably looking at about 25-30mpg around town on the Astra.

The figure they give on Parkers is 36mpg but I think this is the highest rating for them based upon the car being new of course.

Have a look for Zetec-S mondeos, 18 inch wheels and not too far off an st in looks. 130 tdci can average a true 50mpg, my computer says 56.9 for the last 400 miles on a 6 mile commute and b roads.
