Been looking at a few recently as im starting to stray from the corsa as im just fed up tbh! What are they really like? worth the money? Reliable? Common problems? Average price to pay for a clean model? Pictures of yours would be cool too! Cheers in advance!

I've on my 3rd now. Love em, such fun cars. Go for a non sunroof as they tend to leak, brakes aren't great but easily upgradable. CV boots, sensors, nakard rear axles rust as with any car around that sort of age now.
My old one, quite rare a 52 plate non sunroof Moonstone blue GTi

Had a JP4 from a 05 Citroen C2 with few mods, 142 BHP, gaz coilovers, Brembo 4 pot's, fully poly bushed etc. regret selling it now. Sold it Sept 2011 for £2800 just to give you an idea.
2nd one was this:

Normal 106 engine (J4) with bike throttle bodies, newmans ph3 cams and exhaust, around 170bhp mark. Was fookin quick.
Current one

Pretty standard, backbox and cone filter, lowered and rallye steels.
For sale if you want it, 118k but engine and box is very strong!! MOT untill April 2013 and tax untill end of Oct. has a few dents on the front of bonnet and front leather seats are knackered.

Depends on who you buy from if it's been looked after or not. My missus one was a nightmare but mine was a gem with nothing going wrong with it in the year I had it. Common problems are weak gearboxes, rear axle bearings knackering due to lowering. Great wee cars tho and pretty quick with simple bolt on breathing mods.

And the missus one

Not necessarily due to lowering Eck, the axle on my Vtr fuked up, and so did the 1 on my old 206 GTi. Both factory standard cars. Lowering them the wrong way does play a big part in it though.

Fucking loved mine !
Amazing car. 80k mountains of history non sunroof sundance yellow. I paid £900 off a lad who buys and sells locally and never let me done until the release bearing went(my own fault really)
I sold it for 1k tho and the lad kept it for 6 month then sold it for 1600 !
Mine

Personally think they're the best 1.6 hot hatch out and I even think they're better than a corsa vxr. I chased 1 on the twistys and literally on his arse could of overtook if it was straight. Was standard bar a magnex backbox and ecosse carbon induction kit

Then the VXR driver was pants. Yes you'd keep up on the bends but on a straight it would pull away from you.
Do love them though! Cheap fun!

Cracking cars, for some reason most owners seem to stick show cages in them

Depends on any mods really, my moonstone one @ 142bhp sat bang on with a Clio 197 round Croft for 5/6 laps. Corners and straights, I couldn't pass it, but he couldn't pull away.
Also the one I had on bodies @ 170bhp, had a play with 5 cars on way back from a local cruise, 2 MK4 Astra GSi's, Mk4 astra van with C20LET, Classic impreza wrx and remapped Audi S3. 106 happily kept with them. Power to weight, 170bhp and weighing 900kg's will keep with the heavier cars.

I had a run against one in the XE, couldn't pass it. Pulled up at the lights and it turns out the guy had it rebuilt and 'tuned' at Eccosse, fair play to him

Standard vs standard VXR would have it without a doubt, but we're talking a 12+ year old 106 n/a against a newer turbo car.

My old one:

Superb cars to drive. It's the funniest car I've owned. Reliability however is not good at all...
Spent most of its life being repaired. Common problems are gearboxes, engine mounts, engines, basically anything expensive.

This. In the year I had my moonstone one it had a driveshaft and ABS sensor. And it performed a full open pit lane track day with no faults.
Current one has cost me a battery in 4 months.
