Seen this thread on a few forums I use and it's always a popular one... I did a quick search and saw nothing similar so thought i'd pop it on here after having a furious debate with mates about it earlier.
So, you either get £1million or you get a 50/50 shot at £1billion...
I'd rather have the 50% chance at £1billion... It's greedy, but although £1m is an incredible amount of money there's only so far it'll get you and only so many dreams you can fulfil with it... £1billion is an endless amount of money really and there'd be no limit on how many dreams you could fulfil.

You'd have to be an idiot to gamble the 1 million for a 50% chance at nothing!

Depends.
If you have a good life, job, tidy girlfriend, house etc / nothing to lose you would gamble.
If youre on the dole with nothing to your name you would take the 1 million.

yeah i get some of you but really 1 million pounds is a start to something not an end. 1 billion is an end to doing what ever you do and never needing to worry about a thing again. imagine the feeling when your down to your last 100k thinking "shit i should of gambled for the bick bucks"

I think I'd have to gamble, although if the money was satinfront of me, don't know that I could go through with it!

A million is more than enough. Far more than most people would earn in a lifetime, easy one for me.

Depends what type of lifestyle you want but you could easily generate the equivalent to a £50K/Annum income with a million

Whilst I agree you could earn 5% after tax (50k) I wouldn't say it would be easy. Plus you could never touch your capital.

i'd take the million. plenty for me to enjoy a happy life. i would just get greedy if i had 1 billion and would end up dead after a massive cocaine orgy with playboy bunnies.

Would be easier trying to make a billion from the £1m.
At least if you have the £1m, you could use that to make money.

Anyone who selects 50/50 chance for a billion has a mild-to-serious gambling problem

depends on how many people are given choice.
If it was a one off question I would go 1m.
I could get mortgage free and then live to enjoy life than work to live

I'd take the million, couldn't retire on it just by spending it all but I'm sure it could be intelligently invested so you can retire on the return.

Take the million. Sell house, buy something for around 250k, buy parents bungalow & give sis wedge for deposit, clear all debts & put 50% of whats left into decent account for baby.
