Right, i've seen three of the cars i'd like next
08 Plate Astra VXR, Arden Blue, 46k miles - £8995
07 Plate (Pre-facelift) Focus ST-3, Grey, 39k miles - £8995
55 Plate Golf R32, Blue (best colour i think), 71k miles, Manual - £8995
All the same price, roughly the same sort of car (except the R32 being 4WD).
I'm guessing on a day to day basis they'll all do the same sort of MPG, with the R32 maybe doing a little less, but my mates got one and i love the noise it makes! And it seems so effortless to drive.
Out of the three, which would you choose?

I would buy the best E90 diesel I could. I'm bored of pumping Optimax into my car now

Its a MK5 R32
I prefer the look of the Facelift ST's, but they're about £2000 more for an ST-3
I've always fancied an Astra VXR since they came out, but it's a tough choice between the three!
I doubt you'd get a half decent E90 diesel for that sort of price, not with lowish miles anyway!

tough choice that.
the st sounds better than the vxr but then the r32 sounds better than both.
st will get sub 20mpg urban driving, astra will get a little more.
i'd probably go with the astra just because it's newer and blue.

Yeah, i love R32's, especially the noise. But they do drink fuel and it's the oldest with the highest mileage out of the three

I'm starting to lean towards getting a VXR, purely because it'll be newer with lower miles for the money. And then i have an excuse to go to VBOA this year

I'd love an E46 M3! But insurance is double the price of an R32 then the Astra and Focus are even cheaper than the R32

I would say the ST personally. It's a tough choice tho and I don't envy you having to make it!

What ever you do don't for one second think that newer and less mileage is better lol. That was my big mistake and it's ended up costing me a few thousand out of pocket.
Out of those cars I've owned 2 and the most reliable was the golf. Was actually cheaper to run on fuel too. I have to admit tho I loved the power that the Astra had and it looked a lot better than the golf but the effortless driving and the amount of toys the golf had was great. The sound mine made with the miltek was addictive as well.
If I had to choose again it would be the Astra but only the burg edition and it would have to have had a limited slip diff fitted.
