I think you would find that there would be extenuating circumstances and that it would at the very worst be considered as a temporary act of lunacy but moreso considered reasonable force in defending someone who could not defend themselves.
The difference with the farmer who killed the two youths stealing the lead off his roof was that in fairness using a shotgun would be above and beyond a reasonable force; whereas finding some paedo raping your 5 year old daughter would be met with a modicum of empathy and reasoning
