got some light rust forming round the lip on my wings, they are getting painted in the next month or so but i want to clean them and anti rust them before they get painted..
ideally i want to leave them in a state where they can carry out any repairs and paint them with no rubbing it off... in primer?
one wing has a small ding but i really dont think this is too bad..
any products that are recommended?
was thinking..
clean with stripper wheel
rust eater
rust preventer
dust with zinc prime
hammerite underside of wings for protection
to paintshop for repair and paint
wanting it to be a proper decent job that lasts so i dont have to be stupidly priced wings..
have a bit cash to buy decent products as the louvres are no longer happening...

Bilt hamber hydrate 80 but its used as a preventative rather then cure. I would have thought any decent body shop would want to prep seal and paint the panel themselves though?

They seem to have more common problems than an Astra.

CAN I PAINT OVER POR-15 WITH OTHER PAINTS?
Absolutely. POR-15 will accept all paints, including lacquer-based paints. POR-15 Tie-Coat Primer is the best prime coat to use before topcoating POR-15. Be sure to read thoroughly our directions and tip sheets regarding topcoating before using POR-15.

i just put a load on the corrado, in places its going to be visible, i thought ahh feck it and went for it.
Hoping it sands down ok as i plan to paint it with corrado paint afterwards.
The marine clean is a good product, but you could use something else, its just a degreaser really.
The metal ready is a bit strange, i'm still not 100% sure i'm using it correctly, is a bit of a pain not letting it dry out. I tend to get rid of as much rust as i can see with sandpaper and the dremel.
The rust paint is the best bit, dries really solid and feels nice (hard to explain)
The main thing you want to achieve when treating rust is getting all the moisture out and preventing it from getting wet again, the POR15 is meant to seal it off properly, but £20 a tin its quite pricey.

try and get to both sides of the rust as well.
I've had tiny spots on my wings that i thought would be ok to leave for now. Took them off and found out its come from the back outwards, and the tiny cocopop size spot on the face of wing is actually a 50p size on the back.
I am going to paint the whole back side of wing with POR15 then put them back on

Surely it will be done better by a pro though??
I wouldn't be happy with "done well", i would rather "done perfect". Especially if new wings are £200+ each.
Give the bodyshop the extra you would spend on products and let them do it imo.

I think most bodyshops wouldn't bother with a preventer

No body shop will ever guarantee to get rid of your rust unless it's cut out or new panels. Customers think they can easily get it removed but it's normall so far in the metal it's hard!
