I have an Acer Aspire One D250 netbook which I want to install some flavour of Linux on. I've put my 128GB SSD in it, and am waiting for some extra RAM to bring it up to 2GB (it's running 1GB at the moment).

Tried latest version of Ubuntu and didn't like the Unity dock etc. (plus it seemed quite slow) so am currently installing OpenSUSE with the KDE desktop environment.

Does anyone have any recommended distros that work well on a netbook given the small screen size (10.1")?

I did think of installing OS X on it but I'm not sure how well that would work as some people say the network side of things and sleep functions do not work.

Just found an old thread I made on a similar subject - http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=621496

Might install Mint on it again if OpenSUSE isn't good.

Yup, try Mint.

Oh and OSX works fine. Have 1.6.8 on a Dell and yet to have a single issue with it; works just like a Macbook

Have a look on OSX86 forums as there probably is a fix (ie: modified ktext) for it.

Looks like the inbuilt wireless card is an issue under SL and everyone suggests replacing it with either a Dell or Apple Airport card.

OK today I have tried:

- Ubuntu (too slow, Unity is annoying)
- OpenSUSE (too slow)
- Xubuntu (quicker than Ubuntu I think)

Haven't had time to install Mint back on there again.

I would have liked to have installed OS X on there but the best I could use is Leopard and to an extent Snow Leopard. Lion and newer will never work due to the unsupported shitty single core Intel Atom CPU on there.

Oh well.

Update - decided to give up on Linux and install Windows 7 instead.

Ironically Windows 7 seems to be the quickest OS on the little netbook.
