Am I right in thinking that both the 1.2i 16V engine is as powerful as the 1.4 8V engine?

Only quicker than a 1.4 SPi.
Wont be as fast as a 1.4 8v MPi SRi

the newer 1.2 16v (75bhp) and the 1.4 8v MPI (82bhp SRI) are very similar in performance and feels very little differance when driving either one.

They may not feel different but a 1400 SRi engine has more torque, more bhp and will acheive a higher top speed because of the larger cc engine size. If you have the choice, get the SRi. The corsa b sxi is 65bhp, the corsa c sxi is 74bhp, but not very torquey, and get people in the car and the 8v pulls a lot better.....

i used to have the a 1.4 8v SRI, untill a wall drove into the front of the car
Must say i havnt noticed much (if any differance between the power of the new corsa C SXi 75bhp and the old 1.4SRI 82bhp) however the 1.4 SRI was alot more drivable around town cos the power was all low down the rev range instead of the 1.2 sxi 75bhp which has it alot higher up.
Oh and dont bother with the 1.4 8v SPI (60bhp) the engines slow as f@ck and not worth tuning.

8v engines never die! Why do you think that engine lasted as long as it did. Over 20 years that engine was used for...and they never really needed to improve it unless it was for emissions and laws.
I dont have an 8v, but know from experience that the 1.2 16v would loose in a head to head...they have less torque, less bhp - therfor they would not keep up, and a lot less top end speed. My gf has got a 1.4SR and it will keep with a 1.4 16v pretty well....power to weight is better on it. But i prefer the corsa as a everyday car, bit more refined and modern. :-D

Surly the corsa C with 10 bhp would be faster then the b (theres not alot of differance in weight) and not just by .4secs?

Okay, parkers may be wrong, but still the sri is a faster car in 8v and 16v form then the 1.2 in b or c form. I admit there may not be much difference in it, but the sri is still that bit quicker....pulling away, mid range and top end power.

And it also depends whether a twat is driving it or not, go on what the performance figures tell u cos some people say i did a 1.4 in a 1.2 but the 1.4 may just be a shit driver!
