from vauxhall and get something else? You see members on here with a wide variety of motors now apart from vauxhalls now.

What do you have now and why a non vauxhall?

I've not made the switch yet but I will be soon-ish.

For me it's mainly build quality and a little bit of brand snobbery. Vauxhall was good for my cheap first and second cars. I was possibly a bit too loyal to the brand when I bought my third car (Astra). I won't be loyal any more.

Don't see the need to stick to one brand.

I did for a while but my loyalty was based on the fact that my first car was a Vauxhall and that was it.

There was nothing in the newer ranges that interested me either.

i don't understand brand loyalty when it comes to cars.

i just go for whatever takes my fancy at the time.

i've had 1 vauxhall, 4 ford and 1 bmw.

there is no reason other than it was cheap or id have bought a vectra diesel. brand snobbery is ridiculous imho. who cares what others think as long as you like the car you drive? i think thats whats wrong with todays people, too concerned what others think instead of just enjoying what they want. its a car.

edit, 54 reg 330d e46 sport i have, it was 3 grand.

I think brand snobbery was probably the wrong term. Brands like Audi, BMW etc aren't just preferred for the brand. In general they make a better car.

to do what though? the driving most people do on a day to day basis in the city or communting it wouldnt matter if it was a kia or a hyundai really. its just most people are worried what people would think of them if they drive a more than adequate car on a day to day basis. status type thing. and thats pretty sad.

that's bang on the money there nic.

people see a car as some sort of status symbol these days. down here theres so many snobs driving around in range rover sports because it's fashionable and makes you look wealthy.

i spoked to an asian guy in work about this subject a while back and he said he would rather drive a low spec bmw 3 series than a top of the range mondeo because his family would think he was richer, even if the bmw cost less

Yup not fussed on brand loyalty.

Had 4x Vx, 3x BM, 1x Renault 1x Chrysler 1x Mercedes 1x Fiat.

I buy the car i like that is good.

Went to a Peugeot 206 GTi as Vauxhall offered nothing else that I really liked. Astra MK4 GSi was too expensive at the time!

My dad had a Mk1 Astra, Mk2 Astra and Mk 4 Astra, then he bought a Mondeo and now he's got an Insignia. All cars were about a year old when bought. So that's why I'm into my Vauxhalls. Problem is all the new cars Vauxhall do, I think are Shite. There's always something else out there better for the money.

For my 1st car I wanted a Nova, but the insurance was too much and ended up buying a F reg Breadvan Polo.

Since then it's been 4 Corsa B's, 3 Astra G's, Alfa 146, Rover 214 SEi, LPG Vectra, Arosa TDI, Jeep Cherokee, Impreza WRX.

I drove a 170k e39 which was going to be scrapped
It drove better than my mk4 gsi i couldnt believe how well it felt, even after those miles
After that iv had bmw ever since,

I put a lot of money into my Corsa Turbo and enjoyed it at the time but now realise that the amount of money I put into it, there're much much better cars out there.

In all i've owned about a dozen corsa's and just wanted a change of scenery.

Had a 172, MK4 Golf GTI & now my Type R.

All worlds away from a Corsa, but now i have my Nova to keep me occupied with tinkering and the Type R as a solid reliable day to day car, fair enough my works 5 minutes away but its nice to have.

Although saying that i'd still have a Corsa GSI to restore once i'm done with the Nova, i do love the Vauxhall scene.

Would probably have bought a MK4 GSi if i could have found one in a garage, Type R was easier to find, and definatly a better car in many ways.

I wrote my Corsa B off, beyond repairable, and wanted another one but had no money saved up at the time, and I didn't like the Corsa C.

What do you have now and why a non vauxhall?

I now drive a Skoda Fabia mkII VRS. I had my heart set on it, no other car would've tempted me away at the time, I do sort of regret not taking the VXR out for a spin though.
