Should ideally go in Geek Day but would more likely be seen here before someone points it out to me.

Was looking into doing mixes ideally for myself and stuff i looked into buying 1210 Vinyl decks but i cant ever afford the prices for most the vinyls i want to start a decent collection just yet.

A friend has suggested CDJ's but i dont really know anything about what ones to get he suggested Pioneer 450's as they could be had cheap second hand online, does anyone know where i could get second hand hardware from online? forums etc as i would need help on what software to download too as havent played with anything like this for a long time.

Get a controller if you're a noob and it's just for your own, pioneer,numark,Native instruments.

Prices vary depending on quality/features...

Orr get 1200/1210s and a dvs (digital vinyl system) which allows you to connect your decks to a computer laptop so you need never buy another vinyl

Ohh didnt know about DVS? ill have a a read into it man, im pretty much new imo i understand the concept behind mixing etc as have friends who have been doing DNB sets around mine for a while and they show me some stuff.

Probably have a budget of £800ish for mixer and 2CDJ's not really fussed on make aslong as they are good quality wise, do you know any decent forums online?

Imo best value cdj are the mk2 800 with some sort of 2 channel mixer your looking at anywhere from 500-800 but its decent gear.

Www.djforums.com and if you like the feel of vinyl get the Dvs system, but on a budget get a controller.

If you don't know what a controller is, it's like a mixer and 2 cdjs combined but only controls a laptop/computer

Butt cdjs are good for clubs and controllers are good for newbie/bedroom only djs

I love vinyl as i have been collecting various random ones mainly hip hop, breakbeat sample records, jazz, metal and stuff for a while now but only really buy cheap ones but would love something to actually play them on tbh.

If its worth paying more for something better i will though, rather start with something harder though as it saves getting comfortable using something that makes a job easier.

Timecode vinyl if your wanting to go vinyl but still have the library of a computer. Basically the timecode vinyl is used to "control" the playback of songs from a laptop.

for me id get a set of djm-400's and a djm-250 and use them with traktor.
or 1210's and the 250 with traktor again but the tractor/serato soundcard isnt cheap

og i say 400's because they connect to traktor over HID now so no need for external soundcards or timecode cd's

Buy a cheaper direct drive turntable I sold 2 Gemini pt- 2000's for a fiver the other day, pretty sure 1 worked but just wanted rid and that's what they went for on eBay. They'll do the same job, just avoid belt driven ones.

If you just want to fanny about for now get one of the controllers. I have a Hercules RMX, as well as CDJs and 1210s, I'd say the RMX gets more usage as it's the easiest for a quick play.

You need 2.5.1 and then just plug in the 400's over USB. Will need to adjust settings but when done the 400 will control the assigned deck and play the track out of the RCA into the mixer as though it was playing a cd

My Advice would be.....if its yours first setup maybe dont spend too much? but get something YOU want it will be YOURS to learn on and to see if you like it for starters, or just see if you can get a go on someone elses setup first. you dont know if your gonna like it or not yet

You wont go far wrong with the popular gear, wether its technics turntables or audio technicas, serato or traktor dvs, pioneer CDJs or denons. It doesnt matter what anyone else thinks, or theyre view on it been the best or most professional or not. all equipments capable of the basics of beatmatching and mixing 2 songs which is what you need.

My first setup was cdj1000's and a cdj400, got the basics in no time and the quality of the equipment is second to none from pioneer, i can recommend cdj's for starters and tbh, turntables are a bit more manual work. softwares a good idea for a digital library but you dont need to splash out just get the mp3's onto cd's and away you go. would be a good idea to visit somewhere like hard to find records and actually get some reccomends from the shops themselves, they will tell you whats selling

learning to spin is a frustrating journey and im sure anyone else whos self taught will tell you...one day it just comes to you! Watch youtube tutorials for pointers

Yeah i see what your saying to an extent. But sitting behind your laptop/pc twiddling nobs and most likely auto syncing isnt that fun really at all. Also massively feels like its not the real deal and more like a waste of money
