Does anyone know of anyway of finding what car the engine came out of or any other information about the engine from the engine number?
Engine 1: 20 XE 14024525
Engine 2: C 20 XE 14165167

Know anyone who works for vauxhall,perhaps there database might keep info like that.

14024 is around about 1988/89 so Astra GTE or Cav GSi.
14165 is 1993/94, Cav SRi or Calibra.
Not at all reliable or accurate but those are very, very roughly educated guesses.
There are also various date castings around the engine but those won't date the whole engine, just those parts. Although if they all agree, it may be original. Easiest one is under the oil cap, there should be a date marker on the cam cap.
