I got told it was when been taught how to solder, but i just had a quick look online and it doesn't seem that way.i wouldn't worry about it unless you do it all day every day.

You can't buy leaded solder any more. Just do it with the window open and fan on.

Its strongly dependant on what solder you use. Obviouslly you have the issue of lead. As well as that some solders use Rosin as a flux, the fumes of which are potentially quite nasty.
For very short exposure your probably ok but for repeated/prolonged exposure periods, it maybe worth looking into a small extract/filtration unit. Either that or good ventilation (i.e. solder near an open window).

When i used to work in a factory soldering all day long, we had an extraction system, with a tube attached to the top of the soldering iron. Took the fumes away as soon as they were released. Worked quite well.

What are you soldering? A decent pitted tip of the iron is worth its weight in gold imo
