right this is going to be long winded so bare with me.

i bought a valver corsa and the engine had kent cams and pulleys and i sold the engine with these items.

i drove the corsa down to a workshop to have the engine removed so the buyer could collect engine etc

i collected engine and next day the lad picked it up and proceeded to fit it to his car.

the car never ran right an on further inspection the kent cams are no longer an let cams have been put in there place.

ive became a villian and a thief over night it seems, cant believe this is happening, i wouldnt dream of screwing anyone over especially a friend.

this story does not get any better as im in the middle of building a corsa let myself and people assume ive had the cams for my own car !!

im not worrried for my car as people are now labeling me as a thief etc!!!

dunno what to say or do for the best ?

Who removed the engine?? Do you think it was them that took them out?? Or do you think it was the buyer who has removed them and trying to pull a fast 1??

Who would you say was more Vauxhall minded?? Not every1 will have a set of LET cams kicking around, so think of it that way. If it was just a generic garage, do you think they would have had a set of cams lying around to stick in it.

Surely if you say you genuinely didnt realise and you apologise and offer to take some money off or take them back and refund them if he would no longer like to keep them then he would be ok with that! Especially as you mentioned its a friend?

Just show the advert to the guy who bought it then return some money to him. Unfortunately youve been ripped off.

Bit of a waste of time texting him, just tell the guy who's bought it from you that you've obviously been conned and knock as little as possible off. I'd have to question anything else regarding the rebuild though, ie was any of it done?

So when you bought the car, did it not run right either?? Surely if they weren't fitted when you bought it, it would be running the same as what it is now with the new owner.

i think its just the engine the new owner has bought? which means anything could of been damaged between taking it out and putting it in a new car, casuing it to not run right, sensors etc

Private sale so the buyer basically has no rights whatsoever, so whatever they bought is what they inspected and paid for.

Because you're a nice guy, you're going to act above and beyond your legal obligations.

Because you've no proof either of what was in the engine, you'll end up footing the bill for someone else's dishonesty.

I'd probably firstly tell the buyer to cut it out with the villain and thief talk, then secondly try and work something out on price where you're both happy.

Be clear - legally you don't have to do anything, but you are because you want to. Hopefully that will defuse the situation somewhat.

Does sound like you're going to come away having lost money if you want to clear your name.

Oh also, if people assume you've had the cams for yours, tell them to STFU and stick to the conversation, or better take your rocker off and show them.

Yeah, bought it with the cams fitted. Now if they weren't fitted when Mr Clean bought it, then it wouldn't have ran right to start with. If the car ran fine when Mr Clean picked it up, and dosn't run right now, and the cams are no longer in place, then you can probably rule the seller out as a suspect.

That would be another big clue yes, 'never ran right' isn't clear under whose ownership.

Not really. Car couldve ran fine with the let cams i assume. Engine could be wired in wrong. Look at the issues jeds having.

Id say to the buyer you were told that was the spec. You didnt know it was otherwise. Give a token amount back.
