To buy something, eg an electronic component, such as a UBEC, that is already branded, take off its branding and repackage it with your own?

Yeah, i'm pretty sure ya drone wouldn't work if it actually did what it said on the tin

Mind you its only a 5V regulator circuit, so making one and branding as your own is easy enough.

Not as simple as that; depends if it's trademarked or copyrighted. Usually it's best to get consent from the original manufacturer.

Why pretend its yours in the first place? Just re-sell its not an issue! People will be pissed off if they find out you put your name on a $5 hobbyking item and sold it to them for 10 quid

They'll get even more pissed off when they realise its a voltage regulator worth a couple of quid at best, and a couple of caps. So all of maybe 3-4 quids worth of components (bearing in mind you could get the board made for free).

Yep it is hence the model number, is a decent parkfly receiver for the the budget, seems to perform better than the Spektrum equivalents, and is DSM 2 compatible

The rx is just one part of it though, looks nice and compact but under there is the receiver, an arduino pro mini, and a logic level converter, and the gps plug gubbins.

its also not just a voltage regulator, a ubec almost uses a mini transformer, and is switching

a voltage reg isnt very efficient, a UBEC is 92% efficient

Copyrighting is automatic, you can claim copyright on just about anything. What have trademarks got to do with it?

It's best not to take someone else's product and brand it up as your own unless you're buying it in an OEM type agreement. If you did it without consent then you'd take responsibility of the product so if you had any warranty issues or similar you'd probably be liable for it which aint good.

I'm in the process of getting one done through spirit circuits. They'll do free 'naked' pcbs (I.e. no solder mask, component ids etc) for free. I don't know what sort of quantities they do but for the average person wanting a one of then I don't see it matters.

Sorry Steve but I don't think that's right, your talking about far more weight than is necessary. That and I've done a we bit of research and all the websites I've looked at say that they use a switching regulator with an inductor in series with the output (which makes sense).

the ubec weighs about 3 grams?

everywhere iv read states a voltage regulator on its own is inefficient, ok for appliances or mains control etc, but for things reliant on battery power that is drained quickly anyway, a switching ubec is the way to go, hence why they are so popular in rc applications
