I need to buy 4 225/40/18 tyres for the type r. Looking at keeping it at around £350 for the set, until I saw these...

They get ok reviews and I never push my car that hard and only do about 6000 miles a year in it. Does anyone have any experience with nankang tyres or recommend anything that would fall in my budget?

Nankangs are pretty widely nicknamed as ditchfinders...

Kumho are ok and I can normally get them in at about 360 at my local tyre centre

I had nankangs on mine when I was skint, they were absolutly appauling, really really really bad.

Kumhos that are on it now are class

Ive had Nankangs on a few cars, and they were fine. Im still here anyway to tell the tale.

Tyre's are tested to make sure they meet regulations. If they were that bad, they wouldn't sell them. Simple as.

The "scene" boys run them with silly stretch because they stretch well. If they can run them like that and not have any issue's, im pretty sure they will be more than fine on a daily that gets driven in a normal manner.

Thats just my opinion, and from experience. I have also survived many winter months without the need to buy winter/snow tyres.

Iv also had nankangs on various cars with no probs, There only ditch finders if you are not driving to road conditions, same as any other tyre. They wont just spontaniousley head for a ditch.

I do not agree with this one bit, you get what you pay for when it comes to tyres. about 10 years ago i made the mistake of getting "arrowspeeds" put on my corsa and they were just laughable. You simply need to go onto a proper tyre review site to see peoples reviews.

All you get there is people trying to justify why they paid twice as much for one tyre as another, they are about as unscientific as its possible to get.

You need decent rubber on a Type R!!

I have some random no makes on the front of my pug at the moment and they are terrible. The originals on the back seem ok. I think the best overall tyres i had were Dunlop Sport. Good for grip and wear.

I had Nankangs supplied with a set of wheels. They're moderate at best in the dry and horrible in the wet.

I have Maxxis tyres on the RX, price wise I find them very good and am impressed by the wear rates and grip in all conditions apart from snow.

I would opt for vredestein ultrac sessanta's.

They cost about 100 quid each in that size and are decent enough.

Had them on the front of my focus and they're currently on the back of the z4 and they grip well. They last quite a while also.

I've got a full set of ns2 ditch finders on my car and there not too bad. Good value for money really. I had bridgestones on before that that cost the same for one and went that much better.
