Had a job interview on Monday, Think I did well as I have been invited to spend a day there to see if I like it and more importantly they like me

My question is who do I get personal references from? I dont particularly want to have to ask my current employer for one as it would probably upset the apple cart a bit and this is the only job I have had so no one else to ask

Is a personal reference from an employer or just someone who knows you? If so who can it be from or are there any rules as to who it can't be from?

Cheers hun x

So are there and people I specifically should not go to for a reference? I imagine asking a parent to do one would be frowned upon?

if you know somebody with a good social standing, police officer, solicitor, GP, that will probably hold more weight than one of your mum, yes

You normally have to give one reference from your last work place (nothing you can do about that) and a personal one.

Whenever I've had to give a personal one I have given my godmother, who isn't a direct relation, knows me personally (and professionally) and looks good as she's a company director

They have specifically asked for two personal references, I can only assume they will contact my employer direct for a professional reference?

A personal reference is good to get from someone you've known longer than 2 years and has a respected profession e.g. civil servant, doctor etc. Same sort of person and criteria you'd need to sign for a passport or gun license.

I was just told not to put family, so I put two friends. Although when they got the letter all it asked them to do was confirm I was working where I said I was at the dates I put on the application form

Personal reference is someone that has known you for 5 years. A lot of people give us references from their next door neighbour etc.
