I had a little shoot with my mates GTR tonight. I know this should be in snap day, but I though more than just photography geeks would like to see this shot.

That's pretty fucking cool Murray!

Don't care for how the flames are somewhat grey in the left side, but besides that it's a near perfect shot.

Anymore pics?

I have a few shots, but they're all from this angle. Tonight was just about experimenting with the technique and trying to find the best method and settings.
I do have one or two which is just light painted. No fire.
I'm sure i'll be able to create a few different looking compositions though.

It was good fun. A lot trickier than I thought it would be though.

Here's shot #2

You need a tad of hdr on these to reduce the exposure of the flames in the first pic but to increase the exposure of the car in the 2nd

HDR doesn't really work with shots like these Steve. You need to make of composite of different shots with different lighting techniques.
Although the first was just one shot, so no composite there.

I like the first one the most, I assume you left it lit up that side for longer before walking around?

Very impressive technique.

last one is a beaut! would have been nice if you lit all the car separately too! Either light painting or strobes...

Second one is the best imo. Flames are way more alive.

Is that a road in the background that gives the horizontal white line either side of the car?

Edit: Although now that I look more closely at the second pic, it's a bit too apparent that you've cloned the flames from one side to the other.
Perhaps either clone the flames from a different pic or use warp to bend them out of shape a bit.

Look good mate. I saw this technique on the TP forums as well and also contemplated having a go when I find the materials to do so

Seen this in a tv pic quite recently! Cool effect! Only positive critism I have is the cloned flames as balling said but for a first time try this looks excellent!

Yeah, there was a road and I managed to catch a couple of passing car's trails.

It is quite obvious that the flames have been mirrored, but actually quite liked the symmetry of it.
