I've been going to a gym for about 18 months now, but over the last few months its started to become less regular or consistent as it was when I first joined. I think the downfall is mainly to do with starting to work shifts, which has messed up my sleeping!
So what do the gym goers find that motivates them to keep going? My main aim is to lose weight, as well as keeping/adding muscle in the long run!

always carry gym kit in your car so you dont have that excuse.
if you usually go after work make sure you drive passed the gym on your way home
stop being a fucking whiner and go? theres nothing wrong with missing a few days to rest if you're sore, but no excuse for being lazy

I used to be mad on it, went religiously for 4-5 years, used to actually get annoyed with my mates when they didn't turn up
These days I just can't be arsed, haven't been since June last year, worst thing is everyone say's I look better for it.

How do you look better for not going to the gym? Do you sleep in a sweat bag with abs toners turned on?

take a month or two off, eat loads and put on some weight - that'll soon get you back in there
Also try really tracking some progress, whether that is to lift more weight or lose X amount of lbs. If you just go aimlessly and go through the motions it can get boring.

The Mrs always hated that I had 'no neck' and oversized arms, apparantly it didn't suit me, whatever that means. It's nice actually having clothes fit you properly again too. That said, I need to go back purely for the fact I never have any energy these days.

Slightly different, but since taking up running I've found I need a goal to work towards.
At the moment have two half marathons to complete so knowing I need to train for those keeps me motivated.
I find it much harder to go out without a goal in mind.

I download new albums to listen to. Sounds like a trivial thing but it helps me get the urge to go.

Go with a mate?
That's what I do, and its even better because we dont see each other much apart from the gym so we've always got stuff to talk about, so the workouts go quicker!
