So new car time.

I like my comfort as I do 400 miles a week to just get to work and back.

Choosing between 530D E39 and E270 CDi at the moment. (Do like the look of CLK 270 though!)

Don't know much about Mercs, But I am sure some of you will!

This is what I am looking at at the moment as it's local.

What are they like reliability wise?
Running costs?

Not had a e270 but out of those I'd have a 530d, add another grand on and u can get an e60.
Had the 2.7 5 pot Diesel engine in an ml and the 3.0d BM and the bm engine is soo much smoother, nicer sounding and I reckon you'd get better mpg.

Edit; can get a e60 530d for as little as 4 for a high miler

Mercedes are good for comfort. Only recently have they cottoned on to the fact BMW buyers would not get a Merc because they handle like barges.

That will be lovely inside, I was in the back of one the other week from the airport and couldn't beleive how big it was. Overall very nice, but I'd have the BMW as it will be fun to drive as opposed to be driven in.

Unless of course you prefer that relaxed style of driving

Thanks.

I am not really interested in E60. I would rather have a lower mileage E39. Also read that early E60's weren't that well built + they have DPF...(Actually not sure if mercs do?)

I also think that 530D might be a better choice. I do love interior's of Mercs though! ARgh!

oh and what ever I get HAS to be manual.

No reason to worry about a DPF if doing 400 miles a week.

On a car that's done 130k miles.

You only get DPF troubles when you run around town all day and they don't get hot enough to self cleanse themselves

My Dad has just got rid of his E220 CDI E-Class of that era. He loved it. But he's 64.

I had one for a few weeks as a company car, was so comfortable it was unreal. that one looks a lovely example, but you don't see many manuals. not very desirable

Far far smoother
