Well the Grand National is upon us once again!

The confirmed list of runners will be released tomorrow but this site is keeping a fairly up to date list:
http://www.grand-national-guide.co.uk/grand-national-runners.php

So when it comes to betting, which company is offering the best incentive to come and gamble with them?!

Looking at the runners and having bugger all experience of betting on horses I would be inclined to bet on the following:

Quiscover Fontaine
On His Own
Teaforthree
Balthazar King
Tarquinius
Gullible Gordon

Using Paddy Power for example, if I tick the e/w box that means I win if they come in the top 5? Paddy Power are advertising that they are paying 5 places.

Bet Victor are paying 6 places I think.

E/w means you get a fraction, usually 1/4 or 1/5 of the odds if it places. Be aware if you are putting £5 each way it will cost you £10 though.

So a £5 EW bet on Bet Victor will cost me £10 and payout if the horse comes in the top 6 places?

Yes, but obviously not as much as if it won. When the bookie shows your returns that'll be based on it winning.

Pay out on the each way part, obviously not on the win if it finishes 2nd-6th

The majority of the bookies will be paying 5 places, as said, Betvictor are offering 6 places.

Again, as said Oddschecker will help you get the best odds, and if you're new to it, you'll be able to find the best account opening offers, the majority of bookies will give you a matched free bet to the value of your first bet, so bet £5ew (£10) and you should be able to get a free £10 bet as well.

I was thining Chicago Grey as soon as the horses were named at 33/1, then it won couple of weeks back, went into 25/1 and now it's 14/1 but the ground is drying a lot which I'm not sure will suit it.

Ballabriggs has supposedly come in for backing, McCoy will probably ride SunnyHillBoy. They mentioned today a horse that has never fallen, but can't remember it's name - Also think teaforthree has a good chance, although it sucked last time out, but apparently that was because he hadn't eaten before the race

And just to further clarify the EW bet, you place 2 bets 1 to win, and 1 to finish in the top 5(or 6) so if you put £5 ew at 20/1 and it won, you'd get £100 (20/1) for the win and £25 (5/1)for the place as well as your original £10 bet. (Grand national will be 1/4 odds)

Victor will be getting a decent amount of my cash unless 365 match the 6 places.

McCoy has chosen Colpert Station ahead of sunnyhillboy, doesn't mean that much but he obviously thinks he's got more chance of winning on that

Colpert Station because hes being ridden by the best there has ever been

Teaforthree seems an interesting horse with a very good e/w chance

Quiscover Fontaine purely because my horse is called Port Fontaine

I put a fiver each way on teaforthree yesterday. Going to put a few cover bets on the ones with crazy odds later as you never know.

Form generally goes out the window for the national. I'll be picking funny names/names that i can relate to. It's worked for me so far. 4 of the 5 horses I bet on placed last year including winner. So this year ill win fuck all

Tried to get the missus to pick a horse, but she hates horses, so she's going to pick the one she wants to die. Hopefully it won't be one I want to win
