Interesting. Only having had my laptop since Saturday, I'm quite frustrated with the Start button resorting to thetiled start screen and not a tradition Start menu in desktop mode.

Whilst I'm all for change and I generally like W8, metro doesn't work well with a mouse, or even a touch screen where laptops are concerned IMO.
Something as simple as moving a document between two folders using metro is impossible and when you switch to desktop mode, to open two windows you have to hope you've got two random folders on your desktop you can use to navigate each one to the correct destinations. You'd rarely need to do this on a tablet so fair enough but on a laptop when using USB pens and actually wanting to organise stuff it suprising how tedious it can be.

Lack of clock in the Start menu screen pisses me off.
May be they'll sort the hyperlink issue in Mail too.

We've moved into an age of dumb computing, dumbed down mobile style interfaces, features taken away, a world where it's harder and harder to do 'real' work and easier and easier to piss about doing 'fake' work on shitty apps. Where have you taken that from Ash 
Metro and the new server management thing on 2012 are so slow.
They don't want you logging into a server desktop at all anymore though, should all be server core and everything is done via management tools on your laptop or a web interface.
Also, 'real' work and Apple

I use windows 8 at work all day as well as at home now, still managing fine without the start menu, didn't take long to adjust.

Just happens to be my train of thought just recently when I see how 'hand holdy' everything has become at a time when we're finally far enough along to not need it.
I think it comes back to the skeuomorphism debate.
Apple are one of the worst for it tbh. That said I don't mind so much on my phone/iPad as they'd never be my first port of call for actually getting aything done but when it comes to my laptop/desktop its a different story.
