Need recommendations for a nice restaurant... Had a look on the usual sites and The Cock O Barton looks nice, despite the name

That's Joey's place

I'm not from there but I go there to eat now and then. I can recommend a few places (below) but depends when / why going? if you want to be outside on a summer day, I'd say before/after I'd say telford's warehouse. If it's an evening thing, probably upstairs at the grill.

- Smoke house place (cant remember the name) next to the river by where you pay for boat hire, epic food (they must have there own smokers ) and nice location.
- Upstairs at the grill, gastro pub vibe with loads of steak choice. Right near the centre and parking opposite.
- Telford's warehouse, on the canal, loads of different european beers, food is decent (more about the location).
- Chez Jules, bit poncy 9and quite small) but the food is awesome.

I've ate in that Upstairs at the Grill place when away with work and it was really nice, also there is a really nice Thai restaurant but the name escapes me

I do hope that's true about being his place

It's for the missus birthday, so was going for something nice and fancy, and it's in July so fingers crossed some good weather.

I noticed that upstairs at the grill place was very highly rated, but neither of us are big fans of steak.

Just don't get the hype, maybe I've yet to have a proper one. Going to Ramsay's in Vegas though so will no doubt change my mind then.

I'm born n bred from Chester mate, what do you and your missus normally like?

On a hot day, you cant beat Hickorys Smokehouse on the river, the dry rub ribs are class. Oh and it has a little sports bar in for betting etc

Chez Joules is a French restaurant, the food is always decent in there, well priced too.

A pub I recommend is Architect, its not too far from the race course.

Yeah I can understand that. I have had a lot of average steaks but when you have a real good one you know the shit ones have been worth.

I'll eat anything but she doesn't like Indian food, she has a nut allergy.

Also, we're staying at the Queen Hotel, is that quite central?

Yea as Gary said, its about a 10 minute walk from town. Hickories is about a 20 minute walk from there. Get yourself down to the Bear n Billet (its just off the river) they do Fruli on draft!

If you do end up going Hickories, defo book in advance as on a hot day its rammed.

I've eaten there before, it was lovely. Very nice location too.

We've got friends in Chester and this is where they took us once.
