Good afternoon people of Offday, i have a little story to tell and its actually quite crap.

I like to email people, mainly because i can be a keyboard warrior, but just had an example of why its better.

I phoned up a place months ago to order bits for the car, mainly to make sure they had them in stock as i needed them asap before a bank holiday weekend. Basically all went wrong and got messed about, didn't get the bits in time, felt i was lied to.

Am having dealings with the company again and now i can't find any record of what went on before, because it all happened on the phone.

Whereas if i'd been a keyboard warrior or a man from the internet with a keyboard i would have detailed records of what was warriored.

+1 for the keyboad

I always prefer to email at work, does my head in when somebody replies to an email using a telephone.

I'm the same. My mortgage broker does my head in, you email him and he rings back.

Frustrates the hell out of me as that means there's a a break in the papertrail.

Do both, E-mail what u want and then phone to bring it to their attention. If they tell you on the phone ask them to put it in an e-mail to you.

I once emailed sky to cancel some stuff after it said I was able to email. They then replied telling me I needed to phone up

Why allow it on your website then? retards!

Also, emailing is free and doesn't require being put on hold. I ended up being put on hold for 20 minutes listening to some god awful music and had to put the phone down and ring back the next day.

Prefer having a proper record of things so generally I email. Don't want to sound racist but I don't like calling up some companies who you know are going to have someone on the other end of the line that you just cannot understand a word of what they're saying.

Thats not racist at all, it's perfectly reasonable to expect the person representing the company to have a good grasp of the english language, especially when the company is supplying it's product to british people.

NU, Gamestation and Nespresso we made notes on accounts after a telephone call that warranted it.

Anyone that does not make notes on a customer's account should not be in the job.

My NVQ students annoy me because they don't answer calls.

I call them, they don't answer, so I text them and get a response in 5 seconds.

So then I call them straight away....again no answer. So I end up trying to explain stuff via txt.

The I get text responses like "gd gd x"

So I rock up at next appointment and they've done fuck all because they "didn't understand what they had to do"

WELL FUCKING ANSWER THE PHONE THEN.

Only socially retarded people fully prefer communicating via e-mail.

That being said I don't like the phone either, especially for personal stuff.

I'm a complete social retard I hate answering the phone, especially at work.

I'm currently getting quotes off tradesman for tiling and I've requested everything in writing because I want complete 'paper' trail for if/when they try it on

I have no issue with speaking to people on the phone but an email creates a paper trail and the amount of fuckwits who will screw you over if you don't have identifiable documentation means email is the way forward; especially with read receipts on
