Im trying to get a bit fitter and lose a bit of timber but cant afford a gym membership. I cant run for too long due to a dodgy achilles so have been cycling around the local countryside (lots of it). I dont get out of breathe much which is a good sign, but my main problem is the aching in my legs which prevents me doing more then around 8/9 miles a ride. Theres a lot of uphill climbs which obviously increase the aching and I get relief by going downhill but other then taking cod liver oil tablets and keeping on cycling, what else can I do? I wouldnt say the pain is in a specific area, its just a general ache. Any supplements people could recommend? or simple excersises? Thanks

Squats and Calf raises in a superset would work well if your after leg strength, both can be done in the comfort of your home with no specialist equipment.

Look for body building gyms, costs you like 20 a month.

If your legs hurt your saddle could be too low.
On the downward stroke your leg wants to be ever so slightly bent but not stretched, and not too bent.

The pain in your legs could be a fair few things really. It might sound silly, but what gear are you in? Do you get in to as high a gear as possible?

cheers guys. I do stretch but could probably stretch more! Will try squats and calf raises and will pay a more attention to how high my saddle is on my next ride

Have you been riding for a while or just started? As I noticed when I started used to get a bit of stress in the legs but after about a month it never appeared again.

have been riding on and off for the last year or so but want to have a real go at it now. I assume that it will get easier the more I do but just wanted to know ways of speeding that up rather then just to keep riding if that makes sense
