So went to Tesco earlier to grab an ipad as fancy one, any way decided on the mini as it seems easier for taking out and about ect. The guy told me though to wait as the new one is due out soon? Any ideas when there likely to release the new one? Fancy the retina display but if it's going to be a while i'll just get a normal one now

Basically it could be any time. You'll be waiting forever if yours always waiting for the next one.
I'm not even sure they'd bother with retina in the next mini, as it was assumed apple wanted to retina-ise the whole range but since the new air didn't get retina the mini isn't guaranteed.
