I first noticed this on some garbage I was forced to watch on BBC3 a while ago and thought it was just this 1 guy but have now noticed it on here a few times so decided it was worth it's own thread.

The original case was 'going gym', in a sentence, I would say, 'going to the gym'.

I can't remember the other threads I've spotted it in but tonight's one that brought it to my attention was 'Going London'.

Just me?

It's just people typing how they talk, around here everyone misses 'to the' out, I do tend to type in better English than I speak but I know a lot of people who type how they speak.

I'd say going t gym, but that's because we have evolved the English language here in Yorkshire in order to communicate more efficiently.

At least you have a colloquial abbreviation and don't just miss words out.

Some people around here have got it down to such a level of efficiency it's quite amazing, "goin' gym" is popular but still contains too many syllables for some. " 'moff gym" the 2 syllable version of "I'm off to the gym" is quite popular.

Definitely a northern thing, I was having a conversation about this just the other day, it's surprising how many words we skip when talking, "the" is pretty much non existent, "to the" is usually a "t" etc.

It's a northern thing.
Work with aload of Yorkshire men and they get so fucked off with people trying to talk like them adding the 't' instead of the, a proper Yorkshireman leaves out the 'the' completely.

They say 'going pub'
I say 'I'm going to the pub'
People trying to be them say 'going to t pub' or I'm going t pub'

That's more Lancashire if anything, think Peter Kay, he'd say "going pub", whereas you get definite "t pub" here.

My favourite is "it int in tin that rin tin tin shit in."
