What can cause this?

I get 7-8 hours sleep per night, have a healthy diet, go gym for 1 hour every day , yet on my commute to and from work I get drowsy and actually struggle to keep my eyes open.

Does anyone else get this?

There's your problem then. I'm all but a zombie until I've had my first coffee of the day, including an insatiable desire for BRRRAAAIIIINNNSSSs....

No, you shouldn't - I was only kidding; I'm quite jealous of your non-caffeinated existence!

You say you get 7-8 hours sleep; it may be that your body would actually respond better to a bit more or a bit less sleep.

You could try an app like Sleep Cycle to try and work out the optimum number of hours you need:
http://www.sleepcycle.com

I'm sure there's an Android equivalent if you're that way inclined.

When you're in deep sleep you're motionless; lighter states of sleep you change position or twitch or whatever. These kinds of apps use the accelerometer in your phone to detect these movements and work out when you're in deep (REM) sleep and when you're not, and from that they can allegedly tell you when would be best to wake up.

Slightly less scientific but less faff would be http://sleepyti.me which tells you when you should be waking up (or going to bed) based on the average sleep cycle and when you need to/want to be up.

2) Are you a vegetarian?

Hmmm, intriguing.
I stopped eating meat for donkey's years and I was a mechanic, so felt perma-fucked. Thought you may have been in the same boat Chief.

Might be worth a visit to the GP for a blood test etc. Could have an iron deficiency or an inability to process it.

Yes I might too.

Do you find yourself struggling to stay awake? I really have to fight against my eyes shutting and it's quite dangerous TBH..

I do sometimes, for most of the morning I could probably go back to sleep quite happily and afternoon isn't as bad.

Do you find it is only during the week though and weekends it's better?

Same job, diet, sleep length, commute and find I'm properly nodding off on the train home at 6 o clock, sometimes even in the afternoon at my desk, I just put it down to getting old
