If I tax my car online, can I legally drive the car on the road until the disc arrives?

Cannot be arsed with retards in the post office tomorrow morning.

Having tax and displaying the disc are 2 separate things.

Yes you can drive it. If you get pulled, it will show on the database you've paid, and it will be pretty obvious that you're waiting for it to arrive.

Illegal. In in-date tax disc must be shown while a car is used on the roads.

I got a Ł60 for this exact situation. The tax database is quite slow (a matter of weeks) and thus your word cant always be used as evidence when pulled.

But in the real world if you have some kind of reciept of purchase and show you give a fuck, chances are they'll let you on your way.

Don't bank on the police having any.

Especially the nice policeman that stops you and hasn't got his tally of nicks in for that particular day.

Displaying an out of date tax disc is illegal and has nothing to do with whether the car is taxed or not. That is a seperate offence.

I was under the impression that like steve said for the first 5 days you don't need to show one (gives time for the post to arrive) but after that it is illegal to not show a tax disk

You have 14 days before you need to display the new disc if you applied before your old disc expired.

Off the car tax site; you'll be fine

I suggest you read this Barnes

quote:
If you use the postal licensing service at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post.

Only applies online though, no grace period otherwise
