Any of you folks had any success using one in an unused car that had/has suffered water ingress, purely as a short term solution?
There's one on the Argos website and another on B&Q's. Both at the hundred quid mark.
I'm thinking something meant for a small room should do just fine in an area the size of a car's interior.
However, these are presumably meant for a relatively warm domestic environment, so my concern would be if the coldness in the car would be a factor regarding effective operation.

if this is any help i got one the other week (from B&Q) and it was around the hundred pound mark, will check manufacturer when i am home.
its bloody great, in a room with some problems it gathered around 1.5 pints overnight! quite noisy though and requires mains power to work.

Mister B, was it a Blyss 10 litre model with the 1.5 litre hopper by any chance?
That's the one i'm looking at.
Mains won't be a problem either.

it sounds familiar, will double check for you, its in a very cold room by the way so in a car in the elements would be equally as good I would say

Will be trying that asap Lee, but my back is destroyed at present so any of the things I usually do are next to impossible.
Still need to stop the leak (sunroof drains), but again, this will be an intolerably painful exercise and will involve a double dose of Morphine tablets and Diazepam, for the sake of a couple of hours work. And followed by a day on my back in bed.
Still need to source several items to carry out the repair too.

My M3 got soaked when the drivers window was left down in pissing rain for 9+hours. It was sodden.
I dried what I could with towels, then bought an £8 giant silica gel box from Homebase and whacked in it there. Says it will do a huge room, so figured the small interior of the car would be fine and it sorted it in a matter of days. Had to obviously pour excess water out each day from moisture trap.
Would try that before spending loads on a machine that needs to be powered also.

Top tip, don't buy a £30 one off ebay that claims it's good for a caravan. My old Grand Cherokee had a leaky heater matrix, carpet was saturated and after a weekend with the dehumidifier in there, there was less than a teaspoons worth of water in the tray

I have used a dehumidifier before on a few cars but I also use this around the house (like when our room was plastered)
I have seen small ones in Home Bargains that around £1 and work OK! Could just buy a couple of them?
Unless your house also suffers from damp then I wouldnt bother spending £100

It's for my old man's car Munchie, so if he can afford it and he wants it done as well as poss, then the ball is in his court
I was just trying to find out really if it'd do the job (as he can always use it indoors afterwards), or if a more specialist 'car orientated' device would be needed instead.

I stick mine in the car when I get it valeted/wet vaced. Does the job lovely.
Apart from this ford piece of shit I've got now which I cannot lock when ts in as it sets the alarm off

What about disconnecting your battery and manually locking most of the car (either before or after disconnection) and then locking the driver's door with the key once the battery is off?

before i found the source of my water leak i in my mk2 golf i just used a small £30 one for a couple of days worked fine in winter. cleared the boot and footwells
